What happens to your skin when you sleep?

It’s no secret that getting a good night’s sleep is great for your body, mind and health. But what about your skin? It turns out that getting enough shut eye is a big deal for skin health too. Beauty sleep is definitely a real thing when it comes to your skin.

During the day, your skin is in a protective state where it fights off skin damaging factors like sun damage and environmental stress. As your head hits the pillow, your skin heads into renewal mode. It starts to regenerate new skin cells, repair damage and circulate oxygen and nutrients. Your skin’s blood flow increases and collagen is rebuilt at the same time.

You also shed around 300,000 dead skin cells overnight (reminder to wash your pillows and bedding regularly). Sleeping on your back, elevating your head or using a satin or silk pillow can help to minimise skin irritation or compression. There’s even a school of thought that copper-oxide pillowcases can reduce fine lines.

Having a replenishing skincare routine before you head to bed is important, as is cleaning your face when you wake up. Having your face on your pillow, and being warm throughout the night can lead to sweat and natural oils building up on your face.

"I use this every night, put it on when I'm in bed before I go to sleep. Love the smell and it really nourishes my skin. Wouldn't be without it. "

"I bought the full size pot after getting a sample size. I'm outdoors a lot and just felt I needed something extra. I love the results so much I use it every night. On a side note I tend to "do my face" as early as possible after getting home and spend a little time relaxing and massaging excess balm into my nails and cuticles which are now really benefitting from this amazing balm. Thank you so much for such a great product x"
